Cheaters Never Win

Fellow anglers, this is very disturbing news that my brother brought to my attention. This man you're seeing was caught cheating in a fishing tournament. Cheating really is not the issue, it's how he cheated. Forty-five year old Bobby Rose from Garland, Texas did something very inhumane to try to win a fishing tournament. Matt Peterson of the The Dallas Morning News states,"He stuffed a lead weight into a bass during a fishing tournament." This lead weight was no little split shot either, it weighed a full pound. I have always dreamed about becoming a professional fisherman, but the day I stop enjoying fishing to make a buck would be the day I'd never forgive myself. I found that this sport has helped me in so many ways, like having love and respect for nature. I hope people understand that even though fish get hurt in this sport, there is a huge difference between fishing and cruelty.

  1. I completely agree with you about fishing and cruelty. This guy is a sad excuse of a person.

  2. I am surprised that he would cheat-thats low. It was also cruel to the fish. however, The question of whether fishing (in general) is cruelty is to animals is another issue which could be heavily debated. Some justify it with catch and release, others eat their catch, but its it a cruel sport?

  3. There's a right way and a wrong way to do anything and everything. Fishing can be considered a cruel sport, there is no arguing that. I for one see it as a teaching tool. It teaches patience, sportsmanship, and respect. Everyone needs to learn and sometimes relearn these values.

Patience - comes when you enjoy a day of fishing without a catch.

Sportsmanship - comes when you get outfished by the person with beginners luck.

Respect - comes when you gain respect for the most unrespected fish, the Hardhead Catfish, get finned by one of these you'll learn respect.

  4. At least he hasn't lost all of his humanity.

When the judges were going to cut the fish open, he stopped them and massaged the belly of the fish to bring the lure out without having to kill the fish.

  5. I agree with you Mike, the love of fishing is something pretty natural, just having a fishing pole in my hand sooths my soul, bites or no bites.
I hope this guy learned his lesson...if your heart isn't in it for the right reason...then it's time to find a different hobby.
